Traineeships European Centre of Modern Languages

The ECML has offered traineeships since 1997. The scheme has proved a highly successful means of developing further contacts between the Centre and its member states. Recruiting young professionals from all over Europe to join its team for a short period both reinforces the Centre’s role as a place of international cooperation and promotes an atmosphere of intercultural learning. For the trainees it often represents their first experience of an international organisation. The scheme which the ECML now offers is the result of a learning process and is adapted to meet the needs both of the Centre and the trainees themselves.

Duration & Traineeship Areas

The ECML offers traineeships, lasting in general 6 months, twice a year. According to their field of interest applicants can choose the main area in which they would like to be involved (although the tasks will cover a wide variety of areas):
- organisation of events and meetings (Programme);
- documentation and resources (DRC);
- the Centre's website (Website);
- finances and general administration (Administration).

Application deadlines:
- 28 February for the period July to December
- 31 August for the period January to June of the following year
Although we do not systematically follow the careers of our trainees, from our ongoing contacts we see that many have continued to work in the area of international cooperation. We would like to think that their stay at the Centre has influenced their decision in this respect.

Communication Internship NEREUS - Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION:
The internship involves:
1. A project focused on the management of network contacts and interaction with the different member’s groups aimed at improving outreach and communication strategy (50%)
2. Acting as a connecting link to the intern’s native member region and supporting the daily management of the NEREUS-Secretariat (50%)
1. Description of the project:
In the broader context of improving network interaction, the intern will be asked to explore new tools for enhancing a continuous interaction with current and potential new members. This will include finding solutions to have a more user-friendly, updated and even larger contact database using also possible Communication Management Systems (CMSs) helping to link the website to the network’s contact data (e.g. when people register for a NEREUS event their data are automatically included in our database). Another task will be to explore new ways to organize the data base more efficient, to better keep track of specific interests of members and their involvement in the different groups and activities of NEREUS, and label the different actors and their roles in the different member regions.  Additionally, the intern will be also involved in finding new solutions to cluster the groups and sub-groups of members on the platform and contacts in an easier and user-friendly way.
2. Description of work related to linking NEREUS to member region and supporting the NEREUS-Secretariat
This section of the internship aims at improving the communication and information flow between NEREUS and the native region of the intern. Depending on the needs of the region and its motivation for being a member of NEREUS, the intern will support the Information and Communication Strategy with special focus on his/her region. Simultaneously the intern will source more information from the region and make the region aware that NEREUS might be an interesting platform for promoting its activities. Finally, the successful candidate will support the NEREUS-Secretariat in all tasks relating to the daily management and coordination of the network.
Possible TASKS could involve the following:

• Supporting the NEREUS Secretariat: organising NEREUS events and meetings (preparing documents, information and promotion material, manage technical and logistic aspects). Several key events will be organized in Spring/Summer 2015 such as an event at the Committee of the Regions and the NEREUS General Assembly;
• Under the supervision of the NEREUS-Secretariat managing the NEREUS’ twitter account;
• Contributing to the communication strategy, including drafting texts for newsletter, newsflash, briefing notes and drafting letters etc.; information research, mailing activities etc.

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Ideally university degree in communication or related areas;
• Good knowledge of different communication technologies and tools as well as experience in using social media;
• Interest in space technologies and applications;
• Excellent proofreading and editing skills;
• Ability to conduct research project;
• High standard of spoken and written English together with a high standard of spoken and written French; knowledge in another European language is a welcome asset;
• Very good organisational skills and ability to work as part of a small team;
• Very good IT skills and experience with Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.)
• Previous work or internship experience in some of the required tasks would be an asset;

CONDITIONS OF THE INTERNSHIP CONTRACT

• Monthly contribution for living expenses of 699.00 EUR net;
• The internship will last 6 months (possibility to extended to other 3 months for a total of max 9 months);
• The intern is expected to work full-time; (09.00h-18.00h)
• Starting date (approximate): February/March 2015

Internship in Communications & Advocacy

The European Brain Council (EBC) is a coordinating council formed by European organisations in neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, basic brain research (neuroscience), as well as patient organisations and companies from within the pharma and biotech industries. It represents a vast network of patients, doctors and scientists, and these stakeholders along with its industrial partners make it eminently suited to work in close partnership with the European Parliament and Commission, national governments as well as other policy making bodies.
The mission of EBC is to promote brain research in Europe and to improve the quality of life of those affected by brain diseases.
Organisation
EBC is currently looking for an intern who can reinforce EBC’s Communications & Advocacy activities. EBC is offering a six month internship at the EBC Executive Office in Brussels, starting ideally in February 2015 (flexible). The internship offers an exceptional opportunity for an individual to be part of a dynamic international organization in the Brussels environment, where the intern will also get experience of working with EU institutions.
Main responsibilities
Year of the Brain campaign
•    Participating in planning meetings;
•    Administrating and developing EBC’s social media accounts and campaign metrics;
•    Coordinating distribution of Year of the Brain materials;
•    Assisting in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations for internal and external audiences;
•    Assisting in answering and processing campaign and general communication enquiries.
Website & Media
•    Update and publish website content;
•    Compile a weekly news round-up;
•    Manage EBC stakeholder database; assist in media outreach;
•    Assist with production and distribution of communications tools and merchandise to key stakeholders, such as EBC’s Newsletter and External Environment Report.
Advocacy
•    Researching on various topics (e.g. EU legislative proposals and relevant EU projects);
•    Preparation of information for High-Level meetings;
•    Assist with the organisation’s event management;
•    Update internal documents, website, database and support with general administrative and organisational tasks;
•    Assist with production and distribution of advocacy tools and merchandise to key stakeholders.
Other
•    Provide further assistance as required to the Executive Director of EBC and other members of staff; undertake special projects.
Qualifications
The candidate should have:
•    EU nationality and/or have a right to live and work in Belgium without a work permit.
•    Possess a relevant Bachelor degree, such as Communications, Political Science or equivalent;
•    An understanding of the not-for-profit sector;
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge of other EU languages is an asset;
•    Office experience
•    Team-working skills, proactive and flexible;
•    Be able to multi-task and have strong organisational skills;
•    Highly computer literate; familiar with web content management systems, social media and Microsoft Office;
•    An operational knowledge of Internet tools, and/or elements of design and basic knowledge of publishing softwares are all assets;
•    Valid and official internship agreement from his/her University is an asset.
Additional information
The successful candidate will receive a fixed salary package on a monthly basis.
Accommodation and travel to Belgium are not covered.
The intern will work full-time (38 hours per week).

Communication, Public Affairs and Social Media Internship

AIM is the European Brands Association. It represents brand manufacturers in Europe on key issues which affect their ability to design, distribute and market their brands. AIM’s membership groups some 1800 companies of all sizes through corporate members and national associations in 21 countries (www.aim.be).
Main Missions:

• Graphic design for online communications, web content, social media, leaflets, brochures, etc
• Creating digital, graphic and/or multimedia communication
• Assisting in content creation, from the initial brainstorming to the implementation and design of specific media activities
• Assisting in the updating of the web site www.aim.be and AIM’s social networks
• Extending the social media presence of AIM, creating awareness and interest around the activities of the association, managing social media updates

Profile:

• Degree in communications, graphic design or equivalent
