Seas At Risk (SAR) is an umbrella organisation of
environmental NGOs from across Europe that promotes ambitious policies for
marine protection at European and international level. We represent 35 member
organisations in 17 different European countries. We are a diverse team of 9
staff who share a passion for the sea. We are currently working on issues such
as fisheries, aquaculture, greenhouse gas emissions from shipping, marine
litter and EU-level marine environment policies. More information at: www.seas-at-risk.org.
The issue of waste and marine litter is currently a hot
topic at national, EU and international level, with multiple policy processes
ongoing in an effort to tackle it. Seas At Risk is looking to launch an
internship to support its policy work on marine litter, including the following
tasks:
Supporting the organisation’s policy work on marine litter;
i.e. researching particular topics, development of fact sheets and briefings;
Supporting the marine policy officer in networking and
advocacy activities with policy makers and key stakeholders;
Taking ownership of a discreet targeted campaign, preparing
a strategy, arranging meetings and taking forward action points, with the
advice and supervision of the marine litter policy officer;
Supporting communication activities around the topic, i.e.
writing of articles, social media posts and preparation of publications;
Support for event organisation, at least one conference on
the topic will be organised during the internship period.
Duration: 6 months
Envisaged starting date: 1st December 2017 (depending on availability).

Requirements:
A university degree marine sciences, or other relevant
field;
Good understanding of the issue of marine litter;
Good analytical, writing and communication skills;
Knowledge of the EU institutions would be an asset;
Experience with social media campaigning would be an asset;
Fluency in English (spoken and written) is a must,
additional language skills are a plus;
A passion for oceans and the EU.

The internship is based in Brussels, and is intended to be
full time for 6 months.
