Graduate School Scholarships at Kent University,UK

The Graduate School Scholarship Scheme was established in 2009 to celebrate the founding of the University's Graduate School. This successful scheme has been renewed annually since then; it provides a £1000 scholarship to University of Kent 2012 graduates who earn a Bachelors degree with honours (or undergraduate Masters degree) and register for a postgraduate degree at Kent by 1 October 2012

Eligibility

  • All Kent 2012 graduates who are registered at the University of Kent by 1 October 2012 for a postgraduate degree programme of study at Kent will automatically receive £1,000 off their tuition fees (£500 for a part-time student).
  • Candidates must hold a Bachelors degree with honours (or undergraduate Masters degree) awarded in 2012 by the University of Kent.
  • Candidates must have satisfied the criteria for admission and register for a postgraduate degree (Masters or Doctorate) with the University of Kent by 1 October 2012. Students considering this offer are advised to check the entry criteria for their favoured postgraduate programme of study prior to application.

Application Procedure

There is no need to make a separate application. The funding will be provided to all eligible 2012 graduates on registration.You can apply for a Kent higher degree or postgraduate diploma or certificate online.
The online form will take up to 20 minutes to complete and can be saved and returned to at any time before submitting. Applicants should read the online checklist before completing the form.
There are five sections to the online form:
  1. Choosing your course and giving us basic personal information
  2. Email verification
  3. Completing the form
  4. Checking and submitting the form
  5. Attaching documents to your online application/sending in additional paperwork by email or post if required.

A decision on your application cannot be made until all the additional paperwork has been received, so it is important to send them as soon as you can.

Herzlich Willkommen bei COPERNICUS - Scholarship

COPERNICUS besteht aus drei Vereinen in Berlin, Hamburg und München zur Förderung ost-, südost- und mitteleuropäischer Studierender. Jedes Semester werden 6 bis 10 Studierende mit einem Stipendium nach Berlin, Hamburg oder München eingeladen.
Dort nehmen die Studentinnen und Studenten ein Semester am Lehrbetrieb der örtlichen Universität teil und absolvieren im Anschluß ein zwei- bis dreimonatiges Praktikum in einem Unternehmen, bei einer Organisation oder einer Behörde. Die Unterbringung erfolgt überwiegend in Gastfamilien.
Im folgenden wird das Stipendienprogramm und das Bewerbungsverfahren vorgestellt. In der oberen Menüleiste ist die Copernicus-Seite nach den Vereinen in den Städten aufgegliedert.

The fellowships support study in a variety of fields, including economics, philosophy, law, political science, history, and sociology.

Eligibility

  • Full-time graduate students or undergraduate juniors or seniors during the 2012-13 academic year and who have a clearly demonstrated research interest in the intellectual and institutional foundations of a free society.
Applicants are evaluated based on three primary criteria:
  • relevance of work to the advancement of a free society,
  • academic or professional performance,
  • potential for success in chosen field.

Fellowship

The Humane Studies Fellowship is an award of $2,000 to $15,000.
Fellowships are awarded for one year

Fellowships take into account the tuition at the recipient’s institution and any other funds received by the recipient.Full scholarships will not be awarded to students who will receive full-tuition scholarships or stipends from other sources, although partial awards will be considered.There is a $25 application fee that you may pay by credit card or check. The Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme cultivates the leaders of tomorrow from transition and emerging economies by providing outstanding university graduates and young professionals with the opportunity to pursue fully funded graduate studies at the University of Oxford and access to a comprehensive programme of leadership development, long-term mentoring and networking.

Overall, the programme provides Scholars with the knowledge, skills and international networks necessary to contribute optimally to public life in their countries and regions of origin and to build lasting professional linkages across cultures and continents.

The Weidenfeld Leadership Programme includes:
  • an annual ten day long Leadership and Public Policy Seminar including conferences, moderated discussions and workshops on political philosophy and leadership development;

What does it cover?

100% of university and college fees, and a grant for living costs (the rate in 2011-12 was £13,500).

Awards are made for the full duration of a student's fee liability for the agreed course. If your scholarship is offered for a course lasting more than one year, the continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based on satisfactory academic progress.

How do I apply?

Apply at the same time as you apply to Oxford by selecting Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme in the Funding Section of the University's Graduate Application Form. Candidates should apply by Application Deadline 2 (6 January 2012 for Medical Sciences and Philosophy; 20 January 2012 for all other subjects).

In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must submit your application for graduate study by the January deadline (20 January 2012) and you must have secured a place on your chosen programme of study by the expected final decision date (16 March 2012). Applications with an outstanding admissions decision after this date, or applications which are re-evaluated against the later March deadline field, are not eligible for scholarship consideration.

You must also complete a Weidenfeld Scholarship Questionnaire and upload it together with your Graduate Application Form by the application deadline in order for your application to be complete. 

If you do not apply in full by the deadline, you will not be considered for the scholarship, even if you have selected Weidenfeld Scholarships and Leadership Programme on the Graduate Application Form.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an expenses-paid interview weekend in Oxford in early May 2012.

The Leiden Institute for Area Studies (LIAS), is committed to the integration of disciplinary and regional-historical perspectives. LIAS has as its aim the advancement of teaching and research of Area Studies at Leiden University and in the wider academic community. Bocconi University offers up to 40 need-based scholarships to international students enrolling in a Master of Science Program at Bocconi. The awarding of the scholarship also takes into consideration academic performances of the students.

The Scholarship consists of full tuition waiver worth approximately €11.000 per year for a maximum of 2 academic years. The renewal of the scholarship is subject to meeting merit criteria.

Chinese government scholarships

Description
The Chinese Government Scholarship Scheme awards scholarships in China for international students. It is established by the Ministry of Education of P.R. China (hereinafter referred to as MOE) in accordance with educational exchange agreements or understandings reached between Chinese government and governments of other countries, organizations, education institutions and relevant international organizations to provide both full scholarships and partial scholarships to international students and scholars.

Eligibility
  • Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
  • Education background and age limit: @ Applicants for undergraduate program must have senior high school diploma with good academic performance and be under the age of 25.  Applicants for master’s degree program must have bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.@ Applicants for doctoral degree program must have master’s degree and be under the age of 40.@ Applicants for Chinese training program must have senior high school diploma and be under the age of 35, Chinese language is the only subject available. @  Applicants for general scholar program must have completed at least two years of undergraduate study and be under the age of 45, all subjects besides Chinese language are available.@ Applicants for senior scholar program must have master’s degree or above, or hold academic titles of associate professor or above, and be under the age of 50.

Application Procedure
Applicants shall apply to Chinese diplomatic missions or dispatching authorities between January and April every year. Applicants may refer to the above authorities for deadlines for application.

The applicants must fill in and provide the following documents truly, correctly and completely (in duplicates).
  • Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (filled in Chinese or English)Those who are available for online application shall fill in and print the application form after submitting it online.The CSC Online Application System for Study in China is available on http://laihua.csc.edu.cn .Those who cannot apply online shall contact the dispatching authorities to get the application form and fill it truly, correctly and completely.
  • Highest diploma (notarized photocopy): University students or applicants employed shall also provide proof of studying or employment on application. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
  • Academic transcripts (notarized photocopy): Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
  • A study or research plan. All applicants are required to submit a study or research plan. It must be in Chinese or in English.
  • Recommendation letters: Applicants for postgraduate studies, or study in China as senior scholars must submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors. Applicants who apply in China shall submit the Admission Notice or Invitation Letter issued by the targeted university.
  • Applicants for music studies are requested to submit a CD of the applicants’ own works. Applicants for fine arts programs must submit a CD of the applicants’ own works (including two sketches, two color paintings and two other works).
  • Applicants under the age of 18 should submit the legal documents of their legal guardians in China.
  • Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (The original copy should be kept by the applicant. The form printed by Chinese quarantine authority could be downloaded from http://www.csc.edu.cn). The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take medical examination due to the 6-months validity of the medical results.
The above documents should be forwarded to CSC by April 30th, 2010 via either the Chinese diplomatic mission in the applicant’s home country or the embassy of the applicant’s home country in China. Individual applications are not accepted by CSC. Application documents will not be returned.

Description The Draper Hills Summer Fellowship on Democracy and Development Program  is a three-week executive education program that is hosted annually at Stanford University’s Center on Democracy, Development, and the Rule of Law. The program brings together a group of 25-30 mid-career practitioners in law, politics, government, private enterprise, civil society, and international development from transitioning countries. This training program provides a unique forum for emerging leaders to connect, exchange experiences, and receive academic training to enrich their knowledge and advance their work.For three weeks during the summer, fellows participate in academic seminars that expose them to the theory and practice of democracy, development, and the rule of law. Delivered by leading Stanford faculty from the Stanford Law School, the Graduate School of Business, and the Departments of Economics and Political Science, these seminars allow emerging leaders to explore new institutional models and frameworks to enhance their ability to promote democratic change in their home countries.The program’s all-volunteer interdisciplinary faculty includes leading political scientists, lawyers, and economists, pioneering innovative research and analysis in the fields of democracy, development, and the rule of law. Fellowship

Global - Scholarship: Humane Studies Fellowships at Institute For Humane Studies, USA

Description
Humane Studies Fellowships are awarded to graduate students and outstanding undergraduates embarking on liberty-advancing careers in ideas. The fellowships support study in a variety of fields, including economics, philosophy, law, political science, history, and sociology. 

Awards range from $2,000 to $15,000 and fellowship winners may re-apply for each year of their studies. In 2011, the Institute for Humane Studies awarded more than $750,000 to 195 students.

The program is open to full-time and prospective graduate students, including law and MBA students. There are a limited number of fellowships open to undergraduate juniors and seniors with a demonstrated interest in pursuing a scholarly career.

Eligibility

IHS considers applications from individuals who will be full-time graduate students or undergraduate juniors or seniors during the 2012-13 academic year and who have a clearly demonstrated research interest in the intellectual and institutional foundations of a free society.
Applicants are evaluated based on three primary criteria:
  • relevance of work to the advancement of a free society
  • academic or professional performance
  • potential for success in chosen field
All applicants will be considered without regard to race, gender, religion, national or ethnic origin, citizenship, or disability. Although IHS considers applications from outside the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, fellowships are generally awarded to applicants who live or study in those countries.

Scholarship value/inclusions:
A Talent for Governance scholarship will generally cover all living expenses during the stay in the Netherlands,  travel costs and the training course fee of the chosen training course ( exactly what costs are specified elsewhere in these regulations). The scholar must cover any other costs from their own resources.
Eligibility:
You are eligible for applying for this international talent programme if,
•  you are a civil servant working for a local government institution;
•  you are young (37 or younger) and ambitious;
•  you work in one of the countries on our country list;
•  you have at least two years of work experience in local governance and will be working there for at least two more years;
• your English is fluent;
• you are able to write a convincing letter of motivation for your participation in the programme;
• you can show the relevance of the programme by submitting a real-live-case project proposal from your own work to work on in a back-home-action plan. Your employer needs to sign a statement that they will give you time and support to implement the action plan once you return home.
• you are willing , once you are selected, to commit yourself to the programme and show this by contributing a set amount of Euros (more info on the application procedure page).

IDEX Fellowship

Description

IDEX is looking for dedicated and self-motivated individuals with the ability to work in new and challenging environments with limited resources. IDEX is an initiative of Gray Matters Capital Foundation (GMC) and Gray Ghost Ventures (GGV). GMC and GGV have are dedicated to providing market-based capital solutions to entrepreneurs who are addressing the needs of low-income communities in emerging markets. Fellows must be willing to work in low-income communities in developing nations (India or Ghana) and must demonstrate practical skills, relationship building, cultural sensitivity and leadership potential to affect change by implementing market-based solutions to create social impact. IDEX fellows are selected from a competitive pool of talented, passionate young professionals from across a wide range of sectors, professional and academic backgrounds and ethnicities.
The IDEX Fellowship is a paid 10-month field placement in a social enterprise that offers cultural and social immersion into the field of social enterprise for college graduates interested in launching a career in the sector. Fellows are strategically placed to work with entrepreneurs to develop a blueprint for change. IDEX Fellows work in social enterprises span across five focus areas:

IDEX fellows can expect to receive 2-3 weeks of training upon arriving at their field location. Pay and Living Expenses:

IDEX fellows are offered a monthly stipend that enables them to live modest manner similar to the local people in their community, covering housing, food, and transportation. Stipends vary based on location and actual amounts will be determined and communicated as candidate’s progress through the interview process.
Living Accommodations:

Although fellows work independently with entrepreneurs, they live in housing units in groups ranging from 2-4 fellows. Fellows are welcome to arrange independent living accommodations prior to their arrival. Fellows are responsible for paying monthly rent for housing which is supplemented by the monthly stipend paid to fellows by IDEX.
Vacation Time:

Fellows receive 10 (ten) days of paid vacation time in addition to paid holiday time off (according to local customs of field placement country) throughout the duration of their fellowship. Many use this time to travel to nearby countries, expanding their opportunities for adventure and cross-cultural experiences. Some invite family or friends to visit so they can share their experience of the host country with loved ones. And of course, IDEX fellows can use this time for a visit home (at their own expense).

Emerge Scholarship for International Students, USA

Description

The European Union offers student scholarships to students of any nationality aiming to study at the Master on Work, Organizational and Personnel Psychology, USA. Emerge’s mission is to provide scholarships to women whose educations have been interrupted, who have overcome significant obstacles, and who give back to their communities. The 2011 Annual Scholarship Luncheon was held on March 2, 2011 at The Retreat at Perimeter Summit and is was a huge success. We honored ten amazing women and raised nearly $20,000 to empower the lives of even more women through education. The Emerge Scholarships Inc. (Emerge) scholarship program has awarded   nearly   a quarter of a million dollars in scholarships since its founding year, 2001. The selection   committee is focused on identifying special women – non- traditional students whose education was delayed or interrupted,individuals with a vision to succeed regardless of any obstacles that life has put in their way. They are especially  interested in recognizing women who give back to their communities and whose goals and desires for education align with their passions.Additionally, preference is given to women who are pursuing their educational endeavors in the state of Georgia.This may include women who are returning to school after a hiatus, changing careers, seeking advancement in their career or work life, and stay-at-home moms entering the work place and in need of additional education/training.This scholarship is not intended for recent high school graduates or women who are eligible for or who have already received other significant financial aid.

Eligibility

  • Scholarship applicants must be accepted into a program of study at an educational institution, as evidenced by a proof of acceptance – either an acceptance letter OR a current school transcript.
  • Applicants must be at least 25 years of age as of the date of the postmark of the application.
  • Applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, and/or physical impairment.Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applications will be evaluated based on the information provided.
  • Recipients of scholarships will be responsible for any and all taxes that apply to receipt of a scholarship under the law of their state of residence. Applicants should check with the appropriate state agency or with an accountant or lawyer specializing in tax questions. Emerge cannot answer questions about taxes.

Scholarship

The money provided by the Emerge scholarship may only be used to pay for tuition and fees at the educational institution. The scholarship check will be made out directly to the institution with instructions to only apply the funds to the student’s current account to pay for school tuition and fees. If awarded, your scholarship funds will be available as of March 2012 and may be paid towards tuition, books and fees for Fall 2011 through Fall 2016, or until the full scholarship funds are used. The exact amount of each scholarship and the total number of scholarships to be awarded will vary from year to year (10 scholarships were awarded in 2011). The approximate value of each award for 2012 will be $2,000 – $5,000 (amount is subject to change).

How to apply?

  • Applicants must complete the application form and essay requirement and must mail all required materials to the address provided. All materials being submitted for an applicant (signed application, recommendation letters and program acceptance letter or current transcripts) must be submitted in one package. All material related to an applicant must note the applicant’s name and email address.
  • Two letters of recommendation are required. At least one of these should be from someone who knows the applicant in a professional or work-related relationship, including volunteer work.   The second recommendation may be personal or professional. Recommendation letters from relatives will not be accepted. The purpose of the letters of recommendation is to assist the committee in our evaluation and decision-making. Recommendation letters should address the following points:
  1. his/her  observation of  your level of commitment to pursuing future plans,  and your ability  to stick with a program once you’ve made a commitment
  2. information about your character that the person would consider important when describing you to a stranger
  3. why he/she is recommending your as a scholarship recipient
  4. what he/she thinks you bring to the table that makes you unique among the many applicants
  5. he/she should be as straightforward as possible;  honesty  and sincerity  always show through the verbiage!
  • Scholarship recipients must submit a photograph—hard copy or digital (preferred) – to the committee after receiving confirmation of the award. This photograph will be used for publicity purposes, and may be included on the Emerge website and in other promotional materials. Hardcopy pictures will not be returned, so please do not send your only copy.
All applicants will receive email confirmation within five business days of receipt of their application. If you do not  receive an email within one week after sending in your application you may email to request confirmation. After the selection process is completed and   award recipients have been notified the selection committee will send an email to the remaining applicants informing them of their status. “la Caixa” / CNIO International PhD Programme, Spain

In 2008 “la Caixa” Foundation launched a scholarship programme to offer interdisciplinary training and research opportunities to outstanding young graduate students of any nationality to pursue a PhD project at the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO).
The “la Caixa”/CNIO international PhD programme offers cross-disciplinary training in state-of-the-art basic and applied cancer research within an international scientific environment. Ten fully funded four year fellowships will be available in 2012. Candidates should have an excellent academic track record, a solid knowledge of English and previous research experience.

Eligibility

  • This call is open to applicants from all nationalities.
  • Students holding a university degree (BSc, MSc, Diploma, DEA, Licenciatura, Laurea or equivalent) in biomedical sciences, or who expect to be awarded with such qualification during the first half of 2012, are eligible to apply to the Programme. This university degree should qualify for the start of a PhD thesis in the student’s home country. Non- European university degrees should be equivalent to a European diploma or degree.
  • Studies should have been completed no more than two years ago.
  • Applicants must have an excellent academic record and previous research experience during their undergraduate period.
  • Candidates must have a solid working knowledge of English.
  • Co-authorship of publications in MedLine-listed journals will be positively considered.
  • Participation in the CNIO Summer training programme will be positively evaluated.
  • Individuals may not have worked at the CNIO, at any time, for more than three months before being hired as part of the “la Caixa”/CNIO International PhD Programme. The earliest date of incorporation into the Programme is September 1st of each year.
  • The upper age limit for eligibility is 30 years

Scholarship

Students who gain a place in this new programme obtain full financial support during the four years of the scholarship.

Application

Application must be submitted exclusively through the web site. A link to the online application form can be found at here. The application form must be completed in English.
  • In the online application process you will be asked to enter your personal data, information regarding your education, your scientific interests and names/contact details of two referees. Moreover, you will be asked to upload all required documents, including your CV and academic certificates. We advise you to prepare all texts (motivation letter, list of publications, etc.) in a text processor and paste them into the application form.
  • In the application form you can select, in order of preference, a maximum of three research groups from the list of CNIO groups that are accepting applications in the call. These groups belong to six of the Research Programmes at the CNIO: Molecular Oncology, Structural Biology and Biocomputing, BBVA Foundation – CNIO Cancer Cell Biology, Molecular Pathology, Human Cancer Genetics and Clinical Research. Summaries of their research interests and lists of publications can be found in the CNIO’s 2010 Scientific Report. The Selection Committee will assign successful students to the different research groups at the end of the interview process.
  • Use the “publications” text box to include all of your publications (if any). Publications should include the complete title and list of authors (as published) in PubMed format.
  • Use the “motivation letter” text box to outline your research interests as well as your skills and knowledge. Also state the reasons why you would like to do your PhD at the CNIO.
  • Use the “additional information and comments” text box to include any additional information you consider relevant and you have not provided elsewhere. Also, use this space to make any comment you may have.
  • In the application form you will have to give the names and email addresses of two scientists who will write letter of reference on your behalf. You will have to download the “reference letter” form from the web site and send it to two  people who have agreed to act as referees on your behalf. Your two referees must submit their scanned signed letters of recommendation directly to phd@cnio.es.  Alternatively, letters may be also faxed to +34-912246980, to the Training Office. It is your responsibility to ensure that all reference letters are sent to CNIO before the deadline (March 15th, 2012).
  • After you have filled out all the required fields on the online application form you will be asked to upload a file containing your CV. You will also be asked to upload an official transcript of records, i.e. your academic certificates.
  • All files are preferred in pdf format; doc and rtf formats are also accepted (size below 1MB).
  • After having entered all required information you can submit your application by pressing the “Submit” button. After submission you will receive an automatic e-mail confirmation acknowledging receipt. However, remember that your application will not be considered complete and will not be reviewed until all reference letters have been received. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
