Digital Strategist

Peace Child International (PCI), a youth-led development and educational charity with consultative status at the United Nations, seeks a full-time, enthusiastic digital strategist to begin mid September 2012.

Duties

• Develop, edit and design a new PCI website to be up to date and more inclusive of our initiatives, history, affiliates and publications.
• Manage the websites of PCI initiatives and feed them into the design of the newPCI website
• Create the social media communications for PCI
• Promote the PCI initiatives and aid their own social media channels
• Search and connect with followers, to generate greater community building.
• Write and create content for PCI, This includes producing blogs, photos, images, video, audio and other engaging digital media.
• Liaise with team members to create this content that will outreach to youth and organisations internationally.
• Monitor & analyse the online growth of PCI and its engagement with target audiences to research, propose and implement new approaches to strengthen our online presence.
• Complete a Communications Strategy for PCI’s future plans.
• Aid PCI in its 2012/2013 programme

Requirements

• A commitment to Peace Child’s mission and values.
• Strong and fast writer with excellent communication skills.
• A passion for digital communications, its implementation and its development
• Solid understanding and practical application of social media platforms and tools with a strong sense for design, photo and video.
• Proficient in HTML/CSS (or willingness to learn the basics)
• Graphic design knowledge with InDesign (or willingness to learn the basics)
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
• Ability to work in Good leadership, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to multitask, prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Knowledge of youth culture, particularly online trends for 14-30 year olds.

This position is a residential internship located in Buntingford, UK (in between London and Cambridge). All interns live in, shared accommodation and take turns shopping, cleaning and cooking. Food, accommodation and domestic travel expenses when on Peace Child business is provided, as well as a small weekly stipend of £25.00.  You will have enough to live on, but your real gains will be in work experience, contacts and personal development.

Oceana Europe seeks a volunteer to be part of our office in Brussels from Mid August to November (4 months).

Principle responsibilities

- Policy Assist in background research for European Institutions

- Research policy issues and prepare background materials and fact sheets for several European Member States

- Analyze and track policy actions at EU level, legislative proposals, and reports

- Research and track upcoming relevant meetings and reports

- Assist in creation of advocacy and public documents (comment letters, backgrounders, fact sheets, reports)

- Assist communications staff in media relations, outreach, and content generation for Oceana’s website and blog

- Undertake additional projects as requested by senior staff and perform other duties as assigned

Sydney Achievers International Scholarships

Brief description:

The Sydney Achievers International Scholarships provides new international students who wants to study in University of Sydney in Australia.  These prestigious scholarships are aimed at attracting high achieving, academically meritorious, international students to enjoy the ‘Sydney experience’ at one of the finest institutions of higher education in the world.

Up to 100 of these prestigious Scholarships will be offered in 2013 to high achieving, academically meritorious, international students.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

For the undergraduate scholarships, each scholarship has a value of AUD$10,000 per annum, available for a maximum of three years, (total value AUD$30,000) for any Undergraduate program offered at the University of Sydney (subject to the recipient maintaining satisfactory academic progress each year).

For the postgraduate scholarships, each  scholarship has a value of AUD$10,000 each, available as a one-off award (AUD$10,000 each per annum, (ie, $15,000 in total for a 1.5 year program, $20,000 in total for a 2 year program) for any Postgraduate Coursework program offered at the University of Sydney.

Living allowance is NOT included in the scholarships.

Undergraduate Scholarships

Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification or an international senior secondary qualification accepted by the University with an Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) of at least 98* or equivalent.

Students who have already commenced tertiary studies, or students transferring with credit exemptions and/or advanced standing are not eligible. Students completing Foundation Studies Programs are also not eligible.

Postgraduate Scholarships

Applicants must have completed the equivalent of an Australian Bachelor degree qualification with a minimum high distinction average as based on the Australian grading system. Students who have already commenced postgraduate studies, or students transferring from other postgraduate programs are not eligible.

Only applicants with unconditional offers of admission will be considered. No separate application for a scholarship is necessary. An application for admission to the University of Sydney in 2013 will constitute an application for a scholarship. All applications meeting the selection and eligibility criteria will be automatically considered.

The deadline for receipt of applications and complete supporting documentation (academic and English language proficiency results) is 15  January 2013 (for Semester 1, 2013) and 30 June 2013 (for Semester 2, 2013). Applications received after these deadlines will not be considered.

How To Sell Yourself on Scholarship Applications

You have the power to create amazing things with a blank sheet of paper and a bit of black ink. The ability to translate your hard work, experiences and special qualities into a carefully constructed application is the key to making you shine on paper. You must be innovative and impactful even when the application process asks you stay inside the lines. You have to be able to sell yourself.

Follow Directions

Read and reread the instructions and qualifications necessary for the scholarship carefully. Many applications are chucked out immediately because they didn’t follow the specific guidelines. Don’t let something this simple be the cause for your disqualification.

Conduct the right kind of research

Research may seem like a simple concept and you’re probably already a pro with Google. However, if you conduct the right kind of research, you’ll be able to craft an application that is persuasive, timely and interesting for the judges.

Don’t stop after you’ve gotten some background on the scholarship. Dig deeper and research the organizations and people behind it as well as the judges and previous winners of the award. Knowing as much as possible will help you figure out what kind of qualities and experiences they value the most so you can highlight them in your application. 

Ask if you can have a list of previous winners and do not be afraid to contact them. Their success is the most valuable insight you can gain before you begin to complete your own application.

Talk it out

It’s important to make a rough outline of what you want to accomplish. Talking with a friend or classmate about the scholarship is a great starting point because they can help you sift through and organize your thoughts. They’ll help you bounce some ideas around and point out characteristics and experiences you have that they think make you unique and qualified for the scholarship.

Own the Essay

Most of the scholarship applications you’ll fill out will require you to complete one or two short essays. This is the part where you get to be creative and let your personality come through and shine. But, this is also the part where your application can go down in flames. 

Try to cut unnecessary words from your essays every time you proof them. Cluttered sentences can dilute the meaning and impact of your essays. Also, make sure you always use active verbs. You want to make a stand with your essays and boldly announce and promote your qualifications through fun and engaging anecdotes of your past experiences.

Find someone to proof your work

Once you’ve completed your application, ask a teacher to look over it to get a new perspective. Something that makes perfect sense to you may be lost upon different reader, and they can offer things that you might not have thought of. A great proofreader will also be able to help you tighten your sentences as well as point out spots in your application that may need more clarification. After you make your final touches, take a deep breath and be sure send your application in well before the required deadline.

Project Assistant Intern Full-time at PROSAFE in Brussels, Belgium

PROSAFE is seeking to recruit a part-time Project Assistant Intern for a six months period starting as soon as possible.

The offer of employment is for part-time: 16 hours/4 days/week.

Background

PROSAFE (Product Safety) is an international non-governmental organisation established by market surveillance officers from various countries throughout Europe in 1991. Our main aim is to contribute to the safety of products and services by promoting best practices in market surveillance. As from 2006, PROSAFE has taken the initiative to coordinate a number of Joint Actions between various market surveillance organizations within the EEA (European Economic Area). Examples of Joint Product Actions are: Toys, Helmets, Lighters, Baby Walkers, Sunbeds, Child Appealing Designs, JA 2010, JA 2011, JA China 2011.

In order to effectively administer all Joint Actions, PROSAFE has established a Secretariat, which is the front office for all the activities undertaken. The Secretariat deals with administrative, project management and financial tasks and supports the Board of PROSAFE. The European Commission has financially supported all activities of PROSAFE.

Tasks:

•Providing support with administrative duties and organization of meetings;

•Distributing information;

•Operating with the organizations’ Document Management System;

•Providing general support to all aspects of Joint Actions;

•Creating and maintaining files for the project administration;

•Drafting and preparing Minutes and other communications materials for meetings;

•Dealing with the relevant incoming mail;

•Ordering the office supplies and other catering services.

Profile:

- Language skills: proficiency in written and spoken English is required; good working knowledge of French and/or Dutch is an asset.

- Good computer literacy, in particular very good command of Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Knowledge of HTML language is an asset.

- Level of education: (Min. undergraduate) University degree in a relevant discipline.

University of Adelaide Fully-funded Scholarships for Outstanding International Students

Brief description:

The University of Adelaide offers a scholarships scheme for international students undertaking postgraduate research study.  The purpose of Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI) is to attract high quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the University of Adelaide to support its research effort.

Limited. The selection for scholarships is extremely competitive.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

•  Course tuition fees for two years for a Masters degree by Research and three years for a Doctoral research degree (an extension is possible for doctoral programs only);

•  An annual living allowance of approximately $23,728 (2012 value) for the normal duration of the program; and

•  If the award holder holds a subclass 574 visa the award covers the cost of compulsory standard Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Worldcare policy for the student and their spouse and dependents (if any) for the period of the scholarship. If the award holder does not hold a subclass 574 visa then he/she is responsible for the cost of health insurance.

Eligibility:

Applicants should hold at least the equivalent of an Australian First Class Honours degree. This is a four year degree with a major research project in the final year. Other criteria that will be taken into consideration is undergraduate performance, bachelor and honours awards and scholarships, other postgraduate degrees, publications in internationally refereed journals, the presentation of conference papers and relevant industry experience.

Applications for these scholarships are always highly competitive.  Generally ASI recipients have completed a Masters degree including a significant research component and have several publications and relevant work and research experience.
