Traineeship at the Court of Justice of the European Communities

Description

Every year, the Court of Justice of the European Union offers a limited number of paid traineeships of a maximum duration of five months. Traineeships are generally undertaken in the Research and Documentation Directorate, the Press and Information Service, the Directorate-General for Translation or the Interpretation Directorate.
Interpreting traineeships last from 10 to 12 weeks and are addressed to newly qualified conference interpreters whose language combination is of interest to the Interpretation Directorate. The trainees have the possibility to perfect their interpreting skills, particularly in legal interpreting, through the preparation of case-files, terminological research and practical exercises in a ‘silent booth.
Familiarisation visits: Self-employed or employed conference interpreters wishing to attend a hearing in person or to practise working in a ‘silent booth’ may contact the Interpretation Directorate using the contact form at least one week beforehand. Please note that no hearings are held during judicial vacations.

Eligibility

Applicants, who hold a degree in law or in political sciences (majority content, law) or,  for traineeships in the Interpretation Directorate, a diploma in conference interpreting, must print and complete the application form. Trainees are required to:

• be citizens of a Member State of the EU;
• have a university degree in Law or Political Science (law should be dominant) or, for traineeships in the Interpretation Directorate, a diploma in conference interpreting, if necessary complemented by a post-graduate diploma, or equivalent professional experience;
• have a perfect knowledge of one of the official languages of the EU, and a good knowledge of a second. A good knowledge of French is however highly recommended.

Six-month Funded Internship: Women’s Human Rights in Europe

INTERIGHTS is pleased to invite applications for a six-month funded internship starting in July 2012, for a lawyer/academic working on Women’s Human Rights in Europe.

Established in 1982, INTERIGHTS works to promote respect for human rights through the use of law. We achieve this through a range of activities: strategic litigation through co-representation, legal support to applicants and third party interventions before international, regional, and national human rights courts and bodies; advising lawyers on the use of international and comparative human rights law before their domestic courts; building capacity through litigation partnerships, targeted training activities and internships, and through the dissemination of legal information.

Thematically, our priorities are equality, security and the rule of law (including counter-terrorism), and economic and social rights (ESR). INTERIGHTS currently focuses its activities in Africa, the Commonwealth, Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

Tasks

The precise nature of activities will depend on organisational and programme priorities at the time of the placement; however, it is likely that the main areas in which experience will be offered will include:

- Legal research on international and comparative human rights law and practice relating to Women’s Human Rights to support the preparation of briefs before domestic courts and the European Court of Human Rights;

- Preparation of materials for INTERIGHTS’ training workshops on Women’s Human Rights;

- Assistance on INTERIGHTS' publications on Women’s Human Rights;

- Where possible, attendance at meetings with human rights practitioners, lectures, or visits to other international / national human rights organisations based in London.

Generalità

The six month internship will begin in July 2012 and will be based in London.

INTERIGHTS will arrange and pay for reasonable travel.

The intern will receive a monthly grant of £1,300.

Accommodation is not provided but INTERIGHTS can advise on finding a suitable place to stay.

GeTMA Scholarships for International Students in Turkey/Germany

Brief description:

GeT MA – the German Turkish Masters Program in Social Sciences – provides a certain number of full scholarships (tuition fees + monthly stipends) and tuition fee reductions to qualified students of the program.

GeT MA is a unique, interdisciplinary, two-year masters program, which offers an excellent education in Europe’s two vibrant capitals: Berlin and Ankara. GeT MA is designed for students from all over the world who aim to pursue an international career in government agencies, NGOs, administration, journalism or research. The program is taught at the Middle East Technical University Ankara, Turkey and the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, Germany.

University of Sydney Scholarships for International Students

Brief description:

The University of Sydney invites candidates who are eligible to undertake a Postgraduate Research Degree or Master’s by Research program at this University to apply for the University of Sydney International Research Scholarship (USydIS).  The objective of the USydIS is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to undertake research projects which will enhance the University’s research activities.

Internship

The European Youth Forum (YFJ) is recruiting an intern for 6 months, starting in early July 2012, in the Communications Team within the Secretary-General’s Office of the organisation. The internship is based at the European Youth Forum secretariat in Brussels.

The successful candidate will work in close coordination with the Communications Team and the Policy Development and Advocacy Department. The European Youth Forum believes in quality on-the-job learning opportunities and this internship is in line with the European Charter for Quality Internships and Apprenticeships (www.qualityinternships.eu).

The European Youth Forum is the representative Platform of 97 National Youth Councils and International Non Governmental Youth Organisations from across Europe and works for the benefit of all young people in Europe.

TASKS

• Policy Monitoring:

- support the monitoring of the institutional development of youth policy already done within the European Youth Forum, according to its strategic priorities: Education, Participation, and Youth Mainstreaming, Human Rights, Youth Work Development, Employment and Social Affairs.

- The monitoring will be done through the screening of institutional communication channels (EU institutions, Council of Europe, United Nations) and major European media.

• Communication:

- Drafting of a periodical public bulletin, the European 'Youth Policy Watch’, which includes the results of the institutional monitoring. Writing articles and news items for the publications of the Youth Forum.

- Social media monitoring.

PROFILE OF APPLICANTS

- Academic background in political science, social sciences, journalism, communication, law or equivalent. - Interest in youth policy and knowledge of some basis of the European and global landscape of youth policy.

- Available for six months, full-time, starting in July 2012.

- The selected candidate will preferably be at her/his first internship experience or not have more than one previous internship experience outside of studies.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

- Drafting and editing skills for texts targeting external audiences;

- Able to research, collate, analyse and summarise information;

- Policy analysis skills;

- Capacity to work with people from different social and cultural backgrounds;

- Excellent written and oral skills in English, and preferably in French;

- Computer literate (European Youth Forum uses Mac OS and Open Source softwares);

- knowledge of graphic software is a plus.

WHAT THE EUROPEAN YOUTH FORUM OFFERS

• An interesting and challenging period of work experience in a major Brussels-based NGO, with the opportunity to gain specific knowledge on communication and advocacy related to youth policy, education, social affairs, sustainable development, etc.

• An internship regulated under the conditions of the Belgium internship contract called “Convention d’immersion professionnelle” and in line with the European Charter for Quality Internships and Apprenticeships (www.qualityinternships.eu).

• An internship with a compensation of 1.563,80 euro/month gross paid under the European Youth Forum Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Summer School: Innovation in Business – Environmental Challenges

Description

International School for Social and Business Studies (ISSBS) invites you to participate at Summer School 2012: Innovation in Business – Environmental Challenges which will be held in Celje, Slovenia from 25 June to 6 July 2012. Summer School’s main focus will be on practical development of participants’ creative thinking and innovation in the field of Entrepreneurship and International Business.
Summer School will be carried out in English and will be based on creative teaching methods, including Innovation Workshop, Teamwork and Creativity Workshop and Simulation of Market Developments Workshop which will enable and help participants to identify and pursue international business opportunities. After the successful completion of Summer School’s study obligations each participant will receive 6 ECTS in study course Innovation in Business.
Participants will be faced with real business challenges provided by participating companies, which stem from their activity on domestic and foreign markets. Participants will become acquainted with issues of sustainable development in the field of management of drinking and waste water, renewable energy, and to identify potential business-innovative approaches in this field. Solutions from participant’s group project work will then be presented to the representatives of the participating companies.
Participation of students from different European countries is anticipated. Expected results of Summer School 2012 are motivated participants with a developed skill for a different approach to business ideas and a gained knowledge of implementation of their ideas in an international environment.

Eligiblity

Summer School 2012 has 35 application places for foreign and Slovenian participants.

Participants must be undergraduate or postgraduate students (relating to academic year 2011/2012)

Venue

Summer School 2012 will be held in International School for Social and Business Studies, Celje, Slovenia from 25 June to 6 July 2012.

There is a Tuition Fee in the amount of 240 EUR. All participants have to pay Registration Fee of 100 EUR that covers social activities (study visits, picnic, closing ceremony, welcome package, study materials …)
Accommodation:
Accommodation will be organised by ISSBS in the nearby MCC Hostel. Students pay for their own accommodation approximately 180-240 EUR (student can also arrange their own accommodation).
Travel costs:
Students cover their own travel costs.
Important note:
There is a possibility that ISSBS receives funding from European Social Fund and the Ministry of Higher Education. In this case there will be no tuition fee and student accommodation will also be covered. The only cost students will have to pay would be the registration fee. We are expecting this information to be known very soon and we will inform all applicants about this information as soon as we receive it. In any case students cover their own travel costs.
